Mary Kate Freund's passion for sustainability has inspired her entire educational and career journeys. Building on her research background and previous roles in process engineering within medical equipment manufacturing and sustainability engineering within electronics manufacturing, she landed as a Product Sustainability Engineer at Fluidra in 2022. Now, Mary Kate is making her mark in aquatics manufacturing toward her goal of creating an impact bigger than herself – a personal mantra she continues to live out as a professional.
Over her 10-year career in the manufacturing sphere, she's developed a robust skill set in tackling challenges with an increased emphasis on sustainable solutions. Mary Kate plays a major role in laying the groundwork for sustainable pool and hot tub products to enhance the overall customer experience while making products better for the environment. Engineers like Mary Kate address key environmental considerations like water filtration, chemicals and waste within the product ideation and development processes.
"I am able to do my part in making a difference for something bigger than myself through our products' environmental impact. There is so much potential to improve with small choices that can affect a lot," she said.
She credits a company field day, involving direct interaction with customers and their use of the products, as a key motivator for her work. Witnessing the joy these products brought to families gave her a tangible understanding of their value and the importance of ensuring their long-term, responsible production and use.
In her work behind the scenes, Mary Kate excels in this fast-paced environment. She flexes her adaptability and communication skills as a manufacturing pro to support her growth and expand her knowledge. "There's so much opportunity if you work hard and don't sell yourself short," she shared.
