Isaac: Self-Made Service Tech to Company President

When Isaac Keselman was tasked with maintaining his family’s swimming pool as a kid in the 1980s, he viewed it as a chore, not knowing this work would lead to a lifelong career. Word of Isaac’s expert pool service quickly spread to neighbors, inspiring him to start his own summer business. Over the years, Isaac grew his seasonal work into a full-time job – and a full-service design, building and construction company called the Aqua Doctor.

“We have built some amazing projects in people’s homes and we watch their families grow and enjoy our creativity. Beyond the product, this has led us to establish amazing new relationships as our clients quite often become friends.”

Although Isaac earned a college degree in accounting and finance, he saw more growth potential in the pool industry than on a more traditional career path.
“At times my parents, who were university professors, questioned my continued days as a ‘pool boy’,” he says. “My answer was always that my income and growth indicated this was a real path forward.”

Today, Isaac and his team at the Aqua Doctor enjoy all the benefits of most other careers, but in an exciting and ever-changing environment with many opportunities to develop new skills. Isaac says the biggest perks of work in the swimming pool industry include traveling, learning and meeting new people.

“We have built some amazing projects in people’s homes and we watch their families grow and enjoy our creativity,” he says. “Beyond the product, this has led us to establish amazing new relationships as our clients quite often become friends.”

From clients to coworkers, manufacturers to distributors, the relationships you make in the aquatics industry are incredible – and one of the most rewarding parts of Isaac’s career. “They say you can’t choose your family, but I disagree. In this industry, you most certainly can.”

Isaac’s story is proof of the incredible benefits and advancement opportunities in aquatics. Ready to get started in this growing industry? Explore potential career paths, or search for jobs in your area.
